He designates, on the one hand, a personage, adversary of God, appearing at the end of time, and on the other hand the many deceivers who are his precursors (Mt 24:5, Mt 24:24) and who are animated by the same spirit. 5. The duration of the reign of the Antichrist

After gradually extending his reign (first part of the Tribulation, 3 and a half years), the Antichrist will exercise his world dictatorship for 42 months, or 3 and a half years (Rev. 13:5b; cf. Mt 24:22).

His reign will end with the coming of Jesus Christ to earth (2 Thess 2:8) at the terrible battle of Armageddon (Rev. 16:13-16; Rev. 19:17-21), which will consummate the defeat of the Antichrist.

The Antichrist and the false prophet will then be cast into the lake of fire (Rev. 19:20); this final destiny of the Antichrist is also revealed by his name ‘son of perdition’ (2 Thess 2:3; meaning: ‘he who is doomed to perdition’). Satan’s action on earth will also cease at that time (Rev. 20:1-2), for a period of a thousand years.
