– BUG REPORT — INSTANT MODE DOES NOT FOLLOW ALL IMAGE-PROMPT MARGIN INSTRUCTIONS
–
– Date: 2026-08-01
–
– I am developing a complex image-generation prompt for a guide entitled “Guide to Creating Image Prompts: Optimizing Images for Instagram.”
–
– I have repeatedly observed that ChatGPT’s Instant mode does not execute all the instructions in this prompt when generating or editing images. The main problem concerns precise safety margins required for an Instagram-optimized square layout.
–
– The prompt requires exact empty side margins and states that no text, logo, illustration, light, glow, or other visual element may enter those protected areas. In Instant mode, ChatGPT often ignores part of these instructions and places content inside or too close to the margins.
–
– The resulting images may be imperfect or unusable for Instagram because important content can exceed the safe area, appear too close to the edges, or fail to match the required composition.
–
– When I use the same prompt with the reasoning level set to High, ChatGPT follows the margin instructions much more accurately and respects more of the prompt’s technical requirements.
–
– Steps to reproduce:
– 1. Use a detailed image prompt requiring exact empty side margins.
– 2. Generate or edit the image in Instant mode.
– 3. Compare the result with the same request using High reasoning.
–
– Expected behavior:
– Instant mode should execute every applicable instruction, including dimensions, protected margins, positioning rules, text constraints, and final validation.
–
– Actual behavior:
– Instant mode incompletely executes the prompt, especially the margin requirements, while High reasoning produces a substantially more compliant result.
–
– Impact:
– Complex image prompts are unreliable in Instant mode, and users may need High reasoning to create images that are correctly optimized for Instagram.
